History of Craven Community Concert Band
The Craven Community Concert Band (CCCB) has been sharing the joy of music with Eastern North Carolina since its founding in 2000 by the late Dr. Robert Bianco. Under his passionate leadership, the band quickly established itself as a vibrant part of the local arts scene. Dr. Bianco conducted the ensemble for five formative years, laying the foundation for the thriving group we know today.
In 2005, the baton was passed to Brad Langhans, Director of Bands at West Craven High School. Mr. Langhans brought fresh energy and expanded the leadership team by inviting Mark Lorek, Band Director at Grover C. Fields Middle School, to join as assistant conductor in 2006. Together, they guided the band through two exciting seasons of growth and musical excellence.
The 2008–2009 season saw the arrival of Gunnery Sergeant Mitch Martin, who led the band with distinction until his transfer to Quantico. In 2009, Mr. Mike Laird took the podium for one season before being promoted to CWO4 and reassigned to New Orleans.
In 2010, Joe Olivieri took up the conductor’s role and directed the band with enthusiasm and dedication through December 2013. Following his retirement from the podium, Matt Farquhar stepped in, leading the ensemble from January 2014 through May 2015.
In September 2015 we were joined by Mitch Martin, retired from military service. Under his seasoned leadership, the Craven Community Concert Band continues to inspire audiences and foster a love of music throughout the region.
